Beautiful Darkness Book Review

5/11/2012

The second book in the Beautiful Creature series finds Ethan and Lena dealing with the aftermath of Lena's 16th birthday.  While I liked the first book, I wasn't really impressed with the second book. To the point where, I'm not really interested in reading the rest of the series even though I own the third book and will most likely be buying the forth and last book (I'm the kind of person that when I start buying a series, I need to at least finish buying it).

The story brought Sarafine back trying to trick Lena into choosing evil and in the end when Lena finally had to make a decision, what did she choose: to stay exactly as she was with one gold eye and one green eye.  Now because of this decision, there will be consequences no doubt brought forth in the next book.  To me, I felt like it was a cop-pout, like the authors didn't know which one they should choose so they just made her both.  I think it would have been a more interesting story to make Lena one or the other and then explore the aftermath of that.  Like if Lena chose evil, what would that have meant for her and Ethan's relationship?

Also, by the end of the book, I was ready for it to finish and I felt like it just kept going even though it didn't need to.  Dragging out the story a bit, made me even more less interested in continuing the series.  I don't know, maybe I'll read the next book just because I've read the first to or maybe not.  It's not usually fun when you read a book because you feel obliged to instead of because you want to.
