I was told by my book club that I had to read this book and I am so glad I listened to them. As such, I am telling you the same thing: read this book and when you're done, read the second book. And when you're done with that, read the third and final book coming out August 24th. Here's why:
The Hunger Games is set in the future where North America was destroyed and all that's left is a nation called Panem. This nation consist of a ruthless government known as the Capital and 12 surrounding districts. As punishment for a past rebellion, the districts are forced to send one boy and one girl from the ages of 12-18 to the Hunger Games. As tributes, they must fight to the death leaving only one victor. The story is told through Katniss, a sixteen year-old girl who volunteered to participate in the hunger games in place of her twelve year-old sister. She leave behind not only her sister but her mother and hunting buddy Gale, a friend who has promised to take care of her family in her place. Along with fellow tribute Peeta and mentor Haymitch, she travels to the Capital and partakes in the rituals of the games.
This book has it all from suspense to romance, from humor to drama and all that's in between and by the time you're done, you'll not only hate the Capital has much as the districts do, but you'll want to run out and read the second immediately. And when you're done, there's one question I need you to answer: Peeta or Gale?
