Ok, I know I need to stop doing this to you, but I can't help. I get so into a book, I forget to stop and write. That being said, I have already finished the next book for the book club, The Arizona Kid. I'm not sure what I think about it though. Even as I sit here and write this blog, I am at a loss. I liked it enough to read through it, to keep at it and to want to pick it up and read. But, I'm note sure what my overall feelings are.
I liked the sarcastic humor of it. I can relate to it as that's pretty much where my humor comes from. I guess it's the girls of the book I keep coming to. The book was primarily a male cast, which is different for the book club and why I wanted to read it this month. The main character was Billy, a sixteen year-old boy who spends a summer in Arizona with his gay uncle. Beside the occasional phone calls from his mother, the only girls of the books was his girlfriend Cara Mae and his friend Lew's girlfriend Abby. Abby was portrayed as the little rich girl, who has everything but the bad boy that drives her father crazy. Which is where Lew comes in. Then there's Cara Mae, the troubled girl who blows hot and cold at every turn. I guess I was hoping for a normal female character to offset the others. I mean, no one is normal, not even the guys in the book. I do like Wes, Billy's gay uncle. He has sort of a quiet wisdom to him, always listening to Billy, but never actually telling him what he should do. Overall, I do like the book. I guess I was just looking for more, only I'm not exactly sure what that entails. Maybe I'll know by July 21st for the book club,
