Wintergirls = Read

I finished Wintergirls and let me tell you: WOW!.  Not wow in the since that it was a fantastic, must read kind of book but wow in the since that I can't believe she wrote it.  This book definitely had some series, depressing, do not read if you want to be in a happy mood, moments.  It did have an interesting style to it:
  • words crossed out to express what the main character was really thinking as opposed to what she was forcing herself to think
  • small text to indicate that nagging voice in the back of her head
As a writer, the style was one that I had never explored and I applaud the author for using it.  I just haven't made up my mind about the story yet.  It was bold, I give you that, one that I don't think I would have been able to do.  It's hard to accurately portray eating disorders, cutting and depression in a realistic way.

I felt for the main character and in the end, as a writer, you want your readers to feel something towards your story.  What my ultimate feeling is, I'm not sure.  But I will figure it out by March 31st.  That's our next meeting.
