Wood Tags Part 1: Ornaments

5/15/2020

I know, I know, I have a slight obsession with wood crafts, but they're easy to work with. They come pre-made. No cutting wood to get the shape you want. No poking a whole to be able to hang them. Someone has already done the hard part for you. All you have to do is decorate and display.

This next craft series will feature wood tags and four different ways you can use them. First, ornaments.

Supplies Needed:
- Wooden tags of various sizes (click here to purchase from Amazon)
- Paint and brushes
- Stencils, wood shapes, photos, etc. to decorate
          - If using wood shapes or photos, you'll need gorilla glue to glue to tag
- Twine

Note: if you have a Cricut machine, you can use vinyl to decorate, as well. For supplies, you need: Cricut machine, vinyl, transfer tape, weeder and scrapper.

Steps to assemble:
  1. Paint the wood tags on both side.
  2. Paint, print, assemble decorations.
  3. Decorate both sides of the tags.
  4. Cut twine to desire length (I did 6 inches).
  5. Insert twine into tag and tie at the top.
  6. Hang proudly.

_Supplies Needed:
-Construction Paper or felt
-Hole Puncher
-Ribbon or paper clips
-Scissors
-Tape/Glue
-Decorating supplies (glitter, pipe cleaners, jewels, etc.)

Steps to assemble:
  1. Cut the paper or felt into the desired shape for the ornament.
  2. Decorate the ornament as desired leaving some room at the top.  Hint: do not make the ornament too heavy.  It may not hold on the tree.
  3. Cut strands of ribbon or unfold one side of the paper clip.  One side will hook into the ornament and the other will hook to the tree limb.
  4. Punch a hole at the top of the ornament.
  5. Insert the paper clip or ribbon into the punched hole.  If using ribbon, tie the tip of the ribbon into a knot.
  6. Hang on the tree and repeat for more ornaments.

Make your own Holiday Cards

1/2/2011

The good thing about making your own cards, is that you can do just about anything: note cards, post cards, traditional cards.  I've even done magnets, door hangers and ornaments as cards.  So, the supplies and steps I have below are just an outline of the multiple possibilities out there.  I'm going to go over making traditional cards.

Supplies Needed:
-Blank Cards and Envelopes
-Holiday Stamps
-Holiday Foam Stickers
-Black Ink Pad
-Markers or Color Pencils
-Holiday Message (i.e. Wishing You a Happy Holiday)
-Black Fine Point Marker
-Holiday Postage Stamps
-Addresses

Steps to Assemble:
  1. For the front of the card, decide the design you want.  You can use a combination of the stamps and the stickers to create that fantastic design you'll just love.  If you use a stamp, use the Blank Ink Pad.  You can also use the Markers or Color Pencils to color in the stamped picture to make it come to life.
  2. Use the Black Fine Point Marker to write your Holiday Message to the inside of the card.  You may even want to had a quick Happy Holidays to the front of the card depending on your design.
  3. Decorate the inside of the card with a simple stamp or sticker.  Nothing too big to take away from the message.
  4. If you want to mark you card, put your signature n the back.  This way people know how much effort you took into personalizing their card.
  5. Place the card inside the envelope and seal the envelope.
  6. Using the same Black Fine Point Marker, write the recipient address in the center.  Depending on the size of the envelope, you can either write your address on the front top left corner or the back envelope flap.
  7. To liven up the envelope, use a small stamp or sticker to place around the recipient's address.
  8. Place the postage stamp on the card.
  9. Repeat for each person in your address book.  You can design all the cards the same or do a different design for each person.
